ABOUT

Louis Dowdeswell is an internationally acclaimed trumpeter, bandleader, and educator whose career spans recording studios, concert halls, television, and some of the world’s most iconic stages. Known for his powerful lead trumpet playing, versatility across genres, and innovative approach to music education, Louis has become one of the defining voices of the trumpet in his generation.

Born in the UK, Louis studied at the Royal Academy of Music, where he honed his craft under the guidance of some of the finest teachers and mentors in the world. His time at the Academy laid the foundations for a career that has since taken him from classical concert halls to pop arenas, jazz clubs, and Hollywood studios. In recognition of his international contribution to music, Louis was later awarded the title of Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM).

Louis’ career is marked by prestigious achievements. He performed lead trumpet on Michael Bublé’s Grammy Award-winning track Higher, and has played for King Charles at Buckingham Palace. His ensemble, the Louis Dowdeswell Big Band, has introduced a new generation to the excitement of big band music, amassing over 30 million views on YouTube and social media.

As a performer, Louis has appeared with some of the world’s leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, and the BBC Concert Orchestra. His trumpet has featured in major West End productions such as Wicked, Book of Mormon, Dreamgirls, Tina, and MJ the Musical. On the live stage, he has performed with artists ranging from Robbie Williams, Michael Bublé, and Katherine Jenkins to Brian May, Teddy Swims, Tony Hadley, and Franz Ferdinand.

Louis’ recording career is equally far-reaching. He has worked with Paul McCartney, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Robbie Williams, Gary Barlow, Celeste, Seal, Michael Ball & Alfie Boe, Inflo, and more. His trumpet has also been heard on blockbuster soundtracks, including James Bond – No Time To Die, Barbie, Aladdin, Cats, Don’t Look Up (where he was the featured soloist), and Back to Black, in which he also appeared on screen as a featured actor. Television audiences will recognise him from appearances on Bublé at the BBC, The X Factor Big Band Shows, Songs of Praise, and the National Lottery’s Big Night of Musicals.

Alongside his performing career, Louis is proud to be an International Conn Selmer / Vincent Bach Artist, representing one of the most respected names in brass playing worldwide. In 2025, he launched Louis’ Trumpet Academy, an online platform that combines structured courses, live masterclasses, and a global community of players. The Academy welcomed over 150 members from every continent in its first month and went on to win the Skool Games Q1 Prize for innovation in education and community growth.

Louis’ artistry has been praised in international publications including the International Trumpet Guild Journal, The Brass Herald, The Trumpet Magazine (Japan), and 4BarsRest, while his album High Score has been celebrated for its bold, cinematic arrangements and “bravura blowing.”

Away from the spotlight, Louis is a devoted family man. He lives with his wife, Milly, an opera singer, and their two young boys, Reggie and Stanley. Rooted in Christ, their family life is one of faith, joy, and purpose — the grounding force behind Louis’ busy career on the global stage.
